Bearings

Bearings are literally the components that keep machines moving! As one of Kenya’s largest parts suppliers CTL stock bearings for Caterpillar and Hyundai machines from Quality manufacturers.

One of the first recorded drawings of a bearing, or anti-friction bearing as they are sometimes called, was Leonardo da Vinci c:1503. In simple terms bearings help reduce friction between moving parts. The first modern recorded patent on bearings was awarded to Philip Vaughan a British inventor and ironmaster from Carmarthen in 1794. His was the first modern bearing design, with the ball running along a groove in the axle assembly.

In 1898 Henry Timken obtained a Patent for the tapered roller bearing and a Year later the famous Timken Roller Bearing Axle company was incorporated in St. Louis USA.
